How’s your December going? I’m finding myself strapped for time in pretty much every direction—trying to tie up loose ends at work before a 2-week break and trying to get personal stuff in order before said 2-week break. Even the things that are enjoyable, like holiday parties with friends and time with family, can be stressful at times. So when stressful times arrive, what do you do? I used to bake. And eat. There was a time, and I remember it well, when I was able to mix up a batch of oatmeal cookies from memory and have them in the oven, out of the oven and in my mouth in 22 minutes. These days I’m trying to keep things a little healthier, and focusing my stress-relief efforts in a different way. Here are just a few of those, making my Five Things I’m Loving Now list for December 2018:
Mount Nitanee Kombucha - I’ve learned that keeping your insides happy is a key to overall happiness, health and wellness. And while I take a daily probiotic from Life’s Abundance in capsule form, the addition of another source of probiotic does my belly (and my tastebuds) wonders. This brand is local to my area and is my favorite. I love their motto “tend the garden within”. Truly, we can’t expect to bear fruit of any kind (productivity, energy, kindness, you name it) if that garden is depleted of rich, natural nourishment. If you’re local to the Centre County PA area and haven’t tried Mount Nitanee, check them out. Bonus: It’s a family operation, and they are great people.
Life’s Abundance Body Lotion - I had to laugh when I saw the tag line on this, which is “get off your ash”. But, it’s true! That ashy, dull-looking skin that often comes with winter? Not happening here. I started a tube of this body lotion the second week of September, used it twice a day every day, and just squeezed out the last drop of it on December 10. It’s creamy, not greasy, and smells so delicious that I want to bathe in it—but you only need a little bit to do a lot of good for your skin. Completely plant-based, all organic, I’ve never used anything better. New tube arrived just in time, too, thanks to the quick order fulfillment and delivery from Life’s Abundance!
Orange Theory Fitness - Twice a week at Orange Theory Fitness has been an energizing, amazing complement to the other ways I stay active. I look forward to these workouts and have definitely noticed improvements in endurance, strength, pace and recovery. It also doesn’t hurt that one of my 5:00 a.m. classmates told me that I look thinner. The workout that works is one that you like; and I do like this a lot. All the trainers are great, but special props to my Tuesday man, Derek, and my Friday woman, Amanda, for being such great motivators.
Skirt Sports Toasty Tights - Having your butt cheek feel like a frozen ham hock when you’re out for a run is no fun. I speak from experience. But no more! These tights from my fave gear company have some strategically-placed wind-blocker fabric on the behind and on the thighs (where women get cold most quickly). It’s soft shell on the face side and fleece on the inside, so they are super soft and comfy. Check out Skirt Sports, and use my code as a Skirt Sports Ambassador—1232Joyc—to get 15 percent off. I’ll have an upcoming blog post about why I’ve chosen to partner with this company, besides the awesome clothing!
Stone Works Laundry Pods - I think everyone appreciates clean clothes, but what’s to love about laundry detergent? In my constant quest to use products that are free of toxins, I wanted to bring that to the laundry room as well. Had a few misses in that department, until I found Stoneworks Laundry Pods. They’re plant-based and made with essential oils, they clean our clothes very effectively, they’re not messy, and they fit my budget. I throw one into the back of my front-loader before I put the clothes in, and that’s it. I also like that they come in a paper sack, so there’s no plastic to discard.
There’s enough stress that goes along with the holiday season, so whatever you find that brings you joy, from movement, comfort, or maybe just having clean laundry—practice those things now and right on into the new year!
